The "Rules"

I meant to talk about the rules two days ago, but I was really busy getting ready for a trip to England. Which reminds me...

I will not be able to actually start my food-eating adventure until at least September because I will be away for two weeks in England.

And just as an aside, I discovered that same day that Neopets will delete accounts if they haven't been played on in forever...Another new annoying thing about Neopets, I guess...I don't recall that they would do that before 2007. Maybe that is why I can't log in to my first account. They probably deleted it. Oh well...

...Right. On to business. The rules, in no specific order of importance (the numbers mean which order I remembered them in):

1. I am eating all Active Neopets food items. This is explained better than I ever could here: http://www.neoitems.net/faq.php I am also eating the food in order of ID Number, which can often be equated with its release date. It just gives me a place to start from rather than doing it random, which may be fun but too chaotic for me. By the way, it helps that I am not allergic to any food.
2. I am eating no more than one food item a day. I may not be able to do it every day as schoolwork and such may keep me busy, but I will try.
3. Here is what I am not eating: snot/mucus, dung, mud, dirt, grass (maybe), rotten or rancid or mouldy food, wool, slime, hair, toenails/fingernails, lint, scabs, metal, sinks, some invertebrates such as leeches, lice, flies, maggots, possibly worms, etc., or anything that would be detrimental to my health. However, for those foods, I will probably make some substitutions, stuff that will make it look like dung or snot or some insect so that at least I sort of come close to eating it.
4. Things that have sugar I also have to be careful with, so if something has a lot of sugar I will probably use Splenda in place of the sugar.
5. I am buying it if it is something simple like Grapes, but for other things I will be home making with my father. If something is not kosher, then I will make it at my cottage rather than at home.
6. These are the categories of food I will be eating: Food, Baked, Candy, Healthy Food, Pizza, Special (only the items that used to be under the Food category), Hot Dog, Smoothie, Gross Food (if my stomach can handle it), Tropical Food, Space Food, Aquatic Food, Spooky Food (if my stomach can handle it), Mystic Mushroom (probably, though still haven't decided yet if they should be considered a category of food or not), Coffee (only the teas in it, I think, since I also cannot have coffee), Slushie, Snow Food, Faerie Food, Tyrannian Food, Desert Food, Medieval Food, Brightvale Fruit, Altadorian Food, Exotic Food, Jelly Food, Kiko Lake Food, Kreludan Food, Neovian Pastries, Qasalan Food, Molten Morsels, and any new category of food that may come out during the time it takes for me to complete my adventure (which will not be soon).
7. I realize that many of these foods do not exist. That is one of the challenges of this quest. Using other foods to try to make it look like the nonexistent food as much as possible is the only solution. We'll see how well I do with that, but we don't have to worry about that until we get there. We're starting off easy. How much easier can it be to find and eat an apple?
8. There will be a picture of the item with all its information, such as its description and category, and then there will be a picture of a real life image of the item, taken by me just before I eat it.
9. I am not making the old versions of food items. I am making the food look like its current look. I will place an image of its older incarnations, though, if there are any and I can find it.
10. This blog chronicles my experiences and experimentations with making/buying and eating the food, how I attempted it and how it tasted. I may be stuck with what to do for some of the impossible foods, so suggestions are welcome.

If you are still confused about the blog and what I am doing, it will be clearer when I actually start.

So it's off to England and Iceland for two weeks, then I come back so I will begin the adventure early in September. Until then...have a good rest of your summer.

Why I Made This Blog And My Experience With Neopets

Hello. This is The Deadly One's first blog. Hopefully I know what I'm doing.

So...Where to start?

This blog was created for the purpose of chronicling my adventures of eating all the Neopets Food that are in Active existence. For those of you who do not know what Neopets is, Wikipedia pretty well sums it up. This may sound confusing right now, but I will explain.

In the year 2000 A.D., my sister, who had learned of Neopets from a friend, signed up to Neopets and created an account. I was young then, and had not quite been introduced to all the joys of computers, especially the Internet. I knew how to use a computer, and probably occasionally went on to a website, but it was never really ongoing. I preferred to play role-playing games (pretending to be a Digimon or Pokemon and such and coming up with stories on the spot; having adventures, etc.) in the house or at a friend's house, or outside with friends or my siblings in the schoolyard. I knew that my sister was playing Neopets but I just wanted her to play with me and did not want to make an account. She asked me a couple of times but I didn't want to.

Then one day, on June 8, 2001, in the last month of school for that year, just before the summer break, I went to my mother's office where my sister was playing Neopets on the computer. Again I just wanted her to play with me outside, but she again suggested that she make an account for me to play on. She said I would like it, so I reluctantly gave in. I was hooked immediately. It was amazing. I told my friends about it and they started accounts, and my sister and I got my younger sister hooked as well. Even on that first day I was mesmerized by the food I could buy with my Neopoints. I would spend hours making lists of all the foods I saw in the shops, and eventually other items besides food. This was long before I found the convenient NeoItems.net and Jellyneo's Neopets Item Database, which are both catalogues of all the Neopets items. It saves me the trouble now because I can easily look up items.

Anyways, it was a lot of fun and I played it for many years. But I started getting busier with schoolwork, so I started playing less. For some reason, I forgot my password one day and when I sent in password reminder requests to be e-mailed, I couldn't receive them for some reason and I couldn't sign back in. At this point, though, it wasn't as good because it had been bought by Viacom and it started to be used to make money, not to mention the annoying advertisements all about. I occasionally would still play it though under other accounts, but not as wholeheartedly. Still, I did buy the TCG and The Darkest Faerie for PS2 around this time, so I wasn't that lost to it. It was in 2005, about a year after the disappointment of the cancelled Return of Dr. Sloth plot which I was so looking forward to (it was revived, but too late, I haven't seen it and I don't know anything about it, but some day I will have a look at it) that I played gradually less and less. In 2007, Neopets changed its format dramatically, which threw me off so that I had trouble finding my way around. At this point I rarely played. I recently started a new account, for reasons I don't understand fully, but by then Adam and Donna had left, and it was not as good as it used to be. For one thing, I think the NC Mall, Neopets Mobile, and Neopets Premium (along with the advertisements) ruined it. The merchandising I was fine with, though. I got some plushies from MacDonald's.

So that was a brief sommary of my experience with Neopets. I still play it a little. But if I am not so into it now as I was back then, why am I making this blog? Well...There is still something about Neopets that keeps drawing me back to it. I am not really sure what, though. Maybe its quirky sense of humour that I have somewhat adopted. In any case, it still is holding my interest. I have still done research on it.

This is my goal; and it's a big one that will keep me busy for a very long time: To try all the Active Neopets Food in order of release/by ID Number. I will explain the "rules" in greater detail soon, so everything will be clearer. I have always loved food and trying new and exotic ones, and the Neopets food has fascinated me with its strange cuisine (it certainly is creative with some of its food), which is why I want to try it. Some of it doesn't exist, but I will explain how I will attempt to overcome that soon. Any other reasons why I am doing this ambitious project are unknown to me (perhaps I have too much time on my hands, but it certainly doesn't feel like it).
